Welcomes and Introductions!

        Greetings and salutations my wayward friends, and welcome to my tiny corner of the internet. I decided to start up this Blog in an endeavor to make myself write more, and also because I often find myself feeling an INCREDIBLE NEED to write about something and figured maybe I could let the internet know whatever that thing is and maybe some people will enjoy the things I have to talk about.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty I need to make some things known, I’m not limiting myself to certain specific topics on this blog, it’s really just going to be whatever I think of to write that week, that means one week it might be an in depth game review, the next week it might be a recounting of something that happened to me that week, or even sometime previously in my life, and maybe sometimes there will even be a short story or an excerpt from something I’m writing.

So, without further ado, this is the Patchwork Menagerie.

My name is Maurine Poulette, this is a pen name, which I plan to use for any sort of writing and publishing(I figured it was best to be up-front about this rather than have potential future fans feel like they've been lied to). I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in History 2 years ago, then proceeded to get my intern teacher's certification and spent 2 summers unable to find a job. These facts have landed me in the unfortunate situation of being unable to get a real teaching job, unable to get a job outside of teaching because most office jobs require business related degrees and unable to find history related jobs because jobs in museums and archiving require master's degrees. So I resort to substitute teaching, the money isn't great, but at least I can write at work, though I am looking into hotel front desk and other hospitality related jobs that would allow me to be on a computer while working.

            I have 3 main hobbies, reading, writing, and gaming. Reading has been taking over my life recently with the Stormlight archive series, which I've just picked up and finished book 1 in a span of 2 weeks. Writing has always been more of a hidden hobby of mine, something I regularly spent long amounts of time doing without anyone in my life knowing about it. I've recently become a lot more outspoken about the fact that I do write but not so much with sharing my writing. Of all by arts related hobbies, writing is the one I'm the most self concious about sharing, hence the pen name. I'm also working quite slowly on writing a book, the hope is that this blog will help me build a better writing habit to finish that book(and hopeful future ones) faster. I've been an avid gamer for as long as I can remember, and I have a gaming channel on youtube that I may one day share on this blog. I have a very diverse taste in games and the only genre I have a particular distaste for is shooter type games. My current games of choice are Monster Hunter Wilds, Stardew Valley, Satisfactory, and League of Legends.

            Then there are the sub hobbies, things I only do occasionally or around certain times of the year, these are things I'd like to do more but lack the space or disposable income for. These hobbies include miniature painting, sewing/cosplaying, and resin crafting. Lastly there is the hobby I'd like to start, That being gardening, I've always had a fondness for plants and nature and think it would be really cool if not to grow my own food, at least to grow my own spices and herbs for cooking. That's a little ways off though, definitely an after I'm making more money idea.

I have 2 younger brothers who I'm pretty close with and happen to be moving to an apartment at the beginning of next month, my next post might end up being about my future roomate and I and our apartment leasing misadventures.
